Ten years of GM controversy yields better alternatives
A decade of wrangling over GM has done little to resolve polarised views and the potential problems that face farmers in maintaining segregation between GM and non-GM produce is causing increasing anxiety. Having failed to convince a sceptical public of the potential benefits of the controversial technology, despite the use of moral blackmail, the Government and industry leaders now tell us that the introduction of GM crops is “inevitable”
We remain unconvinced and in this article, FARM looks back on ten years of debate, the unresolved fears over the safety and regulation of the technology and looks at the more promising developments in modern biotechnology.
